AGP or PCI?

A friend of mine wants to buy a new video card but is unsure whether his current one is a PCI or AGP. I told him to go into device manager but it did not specify. Is there a program that he can d/l or something in xp that will tell him whether it is agp or pci?

Damn dells, i hate em.

open up the case and look on the motherboard. if you see a brown slot. then it has AGP

if you see just white slots you can only use pci

i suggest if u have a brown slot above the pci slots, then use it, its better, but if u don't have one then u can use pci

well when i look at my graphics card in the devices i get a location entry. Says that it is integrated at PCI slot 6.

Other wise try downloading AIDA32 from Aida32 it's a great free app that can list all the stuff on the machine.

Does Belarc advisor tell that kind of info?

You can get the motherboard model from it and probably extrapolate using the internet...

thx for the link grio, that is what i was looking, a program like that. Its a shame he logged off before i could give it to him I convinced him to look inside, but thx for all your help. Also, anothe quick question. If it is agp, would you recommend:

FX 5200 128mb DDR
or
Radeon 9200?

trying to stay under 80 bucks w/ shipping.

The 9200 is a DirectX 8.1 part; being such I would consider a Radeon 8500/9100 instead for DirectX 8.

The FX 5200 is kinda lame - the replacement for the GeForce MX series, but it does support DirectX 9. Good value.
