Outdoors problem between Bios and XP

Hello
My Bios detect an AMD 1800+ on the motherboard, but Win XP detect an AMD Duron 1200. What do you think about that?
Is it possible to change manually the value on the Motherboard (i mean the computer shop dealer where i buy the computer)?
Thank you for your answers
Arnaud

Welcome to techimo.

I guess the first question is...What kind of CPU is it?

my amd athlon xp 1800+ was shown as a 1.0 instead of a 1.6 once. i found out that my mobo was actually underclocking it. i just had to remove a jumper to manually switch it to what it actually was

Well, The XP1800 runs at 1.53ghz (11.5x133) Is this what the BIOS says?
Also, when it was underclocked, it would have registered as a 1150mhz Athlon-4, correct?
Has this misnomer been the case in XP since you first built/installed the system, or has it only happened recently?
In my experience, if the BIOS is set correctly, and there have been no dodgy reg hacks, then XP will happily accept a changed CPU speed.
Try a re-install of XP, but if you bought it from the shop, and they gave it you in this state, I'd say give it back to them and let them sort it out.

Outdoors

Thank you for your answers!
in fact, the shop dealer, sell me an Athlon 1800+, when the computer start, i can read in the Bios, that the CPU is an Athlon 1800+, but win XP and differents softwares detect a Duron 1200.
So, i open the processor, and it's a duron 1200 !
the guy sell me a duron 1200, but on my invoice there is an athlon 1800. And the motherboard is not the one i really order to him!
So i call him and he tells me that he will change that to what i ordered !!!!!!

stuff like that is really annoying. We've been there at some point. (Not in the same way though, as the last system I bought complete was a 386SX/16 with 2mb ram and a 20mb hard disk) Hope you get it sorted soon though.
