HP Pavillion 7840

I have a handicapped friend who has a HP Pavillion 7840, he got it from Best Buys. He wants to upgrade it a bit and I happily agreed to show him how. I've worked on some older HP stuff and usually found the components to be deceint quality.

Opened this Pavillion up and the MoBo is right out of an E- machine. It's the Trigem Cognac board. I had no idea that HP was using components like this. Is this the standard for lower end HP stuff nowdays?

Feedback appreciated.

I work at a factory where thay produce pavilions, amongst other brands, and I never heard of HP using that stuff.

At work, the only boards used for the HP's are asus, msi and FIC.

They are derived from the A7N8X, the P4P800 I believe and the msi boards are KT400 based boards, so....

We do only produce for european market, like france, belgium holland sweden et etc.

I bought a custom build high end machine from HP back last September and it came with an MSI motherboard, of course HP takes original motherboard products and creates their own which are near replicants but wont be found on the msi manufacters website.
