Which processor

I am planning on buliding a gaming computer. I was planning on using a p4 @3.2 but it seems everyone prefers amd. Which processor would be the best for a gaming machine. if amd is the way to go then I will use an amd. Money is not really a problem I am looking for POWER

You can get THIS bad boy for over a hundred less than you would have paid for the P4 !

I scraping 2gether 2 build my own comp as well. (Not 4 gaming, but a hopeful entre in the H2K2) Bcoz money is an issue I'm getting the Athlon XP 1700+. I heard tell they OC well. But, since money is no prob w/u, I do know the AMD Athlon XP 3200+ is on the market 4 about $550. Here's a site that'll give u a little info:
www.digit-life.com/articles2/am d-athlonxp3200/
Oh, & AMD is much better then Intel, u've made the rite choice.
Sorry I couldn't have been more help.

well... I wouldn't necessarily say that AMD is better than Intel... They both have their advantages/disadvantages... As of right now, Intel's 3.2 GHZ P4 beats out the AMD xp3200 in every benchmark I've seen.
But, I'm personally an AMD fan myself.
If money is NO object, then the P4 3.2Ghz 800Mhz FSB Processor would be very nice.

if it's gonna be intel, i suggest the 2.4C.. its possible to OC it to 3GHz on stock cooling... get 3rd party cooling and it can hit 3.8 and above!

Fastest of all lines of the chips:

Intel Xeon (designed for servers):
3.0 Ghz

Opteron (designed for servers in SMP use, but appears to be a great performer; uses 64-bits as opposed to 32-bits yet can run 32-bit programs very well):
Opteron 144(for one processor)-1.8 Ghz
Opteron 244(for 1 or 2 processors)-1.8 Ghz
Opteron 844(for a whooping 8 processors)-1.8 Ghz
more info here:
http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/...6_9240,00.html

AMD Atholon XP:
Xp 3200+

Pentium 4:
3.2 Ghz

Via-Cytrix (*giggle*):
700 mhz

Celeron:
2.4 Ghz

Duron:
1.3 Ghz

Pentium III:
1.4 Ghz

486 (just for fun):
486DX/4-100mhz

Between the XP and the Pentium IV, check out Tom's head-to-head:
http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/20030623/index.html

Hmm...apears the 3.2 is faster. However, on the SETI test a machine with 2 Opteron 1.8s (probably the 244) smoked the Xeon competition.
