3 hard drives plus DVD and CDrom

Hey man

I've already got 2 hard drives, a dvdrom and a cdrom installed.
My motherboard only has 2 ide ports.
Can I install another internal ide hard drive?

Cheers man

Craig

No, you would need to get a pci ide controller in order to add more drives. Those things will add two more ide controllers to your system, so you could add 4 more drives.

Be good!

If you buy an additional PCI IDE controller card, to give you another 1 or 2 IDE channels, then yes you can.
You can't have more than 2 drives per channel though, so at the moment, you can't add another HD.

Another way to do it is to go USB. You can get an external USB case for about the same price as an IDE card. Works good for storage drives, esp if you want to use that hd on another pc.

Work Setting up 3 OS's

hey i have got 4 hard drives and 2 cd drives i have 2 cd drives on the secondary ide channel and another 2 HD's on the primary channel. The other 2 HD's are connected via a controller card, every hardrive works and is connected properly and accessible through either of my dual boot windows which is 2k and Xp but when i try to install windows Me on another harddrive which i have done and try to get a selection for it on startup i cant get this, i have moved the drive with Windows Me on to different channels and it works by its self but i cant get it to work with the other too hard drives which already contain OS's i was wondering is there any way in which i can actually get Me to work and i am not botherd which IDE combination i use.
all my hardrives are 20gig

thanks in advance
chris

This is an answer to Chris's post above.
I've now got myself a controller card thanks to the advice from this forum.
I originally had windows 2000 and ME on one of my drives(1), and another drive with no operating system(2).
Before I got the controller card, I replaced drive(2) with my new drive(3).
I installed windows XP on drive(3).
Once I got the controller card, I conected drive(3) to it. The operating system on (3) didn't work.
I then changed back to drives(1) and (3) on IDE 1, and moved drive(2) to the controller card.
(DVD and CDrom on IDE2)
I now have the choice of 3 OS's at startup and a ridiculous amount of hard drive space.

Cheers

Craig
