As a general rule you want to stay below 60c if at all possible...68c with your case open is surely running too hot. Do you have case fans? If so, how are they positioned? What is the temp of the room? Are you using a good HS/Fan? You do NOT want to run your system with the case open...that will lead to worse problems than high temps.

This site may be of some use to ya...

whoa... yeah thats really hot. Im hoping that the sensors are just bad on your motherboard... Good temps are in the 40s and low-mid 50s. 60s, especially high 60s you really need to do something about it. What heatsink are you using? What temperature does the case measure? How long have you had this comp? Are there any stability problems (seems like you might have some w/ these temps)?

As much as I play around with drives etc. I just as well keep my case open. Heat sink and fan are generic, like what come with retail amd purchase. I've had it up much higher than 70c. I've wondered for a while now how high is too high. I'm going to be getting the amd athlon xp2500 soon. Any recomendations for a heat sink and kooling fan, or fans and the temp recomended for it.

Vantec and Thermaltake are popular brands for cooling products.

Another question, is that 68c at a full load or just your idle cpu temp?

you either have a very hot room, an offset HSF, too much thermal grease, a defective temp probe, or bios in need of a flash. That is considered a fairly unhealthy temp.
What mobo is that on?

It's a gigabyte mb. I live in Fla. A/C set at 82 in home. I used silver paste, enough to cover aprox 3/8 to 1/4" dia.
