The definate fix...

Flashing BIOS... It was the fix for me. Apparently the BIOS for that Mainboard has some hyperthreading issues... So I'd go for the flashing BIOS trick. After I did that, It's been working like a charm. Goodluck, and be careful, if ya mess it up, it's near impossible to fix. But definatly give that a shot. Also, if your floppy is screwed up, you'll need a new one. They're only like $10 now adays, and it's kinda something you need... so you might as well spend it after spending so much on all those other expensive pieces. I hope this helps! It was a pain in the butt to figure out after narrowing everything else down... but I'm almost certain it's that. Afterall, it worked for me.

Oh and the hal.dll error was something unique to my hard drive. I downloaded a utility from the samsung website to format it with and it fixed that. So anyone who has that problem, might wanna give that a try.

Thanks! I will definitely look into that then before I RMA the board. I had been meaning to try it anyway, but your post at least gives me hope! I am at a friends place for the weekend, so when I get back I will try it out and post an update!

IT WORKS IT WORKS!!!

Flashing the BIOS worked! Runs awesome! Thank you so much! Something about hyper threading support I guess in the BIOS, it crapped out when trying to switch control to Windows.

Now just to find out where in the world I put those RAM sticks I thought were bad???

BTW, I feel like an idiot, the drive itself wasn't failing, it was the disk; problem was I didn't have a backup disk handy to try it out...finally managed to lay hands on one, and works just fine. Go figure...

Also helps if you have the cable plugged in the *right* way, otherwise doesn't work too well at all!

Congrats! If only the homepage for the motherboard would have a giant section where it says "IF THIS DOESN'T WORK, DOWNLOAD THIS!!!" I mean it sucks that you have to do mad crazy research and basicly attempt to replace every piece of your comptuer to find out it's a software problem... And can be fixed within like, 10 minutes. Argh! I'm glad it's working sweetly though, mine is too. Too bad there isn't a way we could spread the word. Thanks everyone for your help.

FYI, if ya fellas ain't done it yet, there is a L4VXA2 BIOS update for 1.5V CPUs to make the board more stable.

In my case, the final 100% stable step was to move the one PC3500(or 3200, forget now) Infineon module to the slot next to the CPU.

Also, if you are running Win98, you'll need to get the NDIS update, or windows will lock up with CPUs that run 2.1Ghz or higher, before being able to boot into windows.

Get it here:
http://www.sjordan.com/ndis_fix.html
The file can be downloaded from the link on the bottom:
http://www.sjordan.com/ndis_fix.zip (and you can install it in safe mode)

For XP fellas, remember pull all the crap out of the system, yank out all the USB junk, and go as bare as you can, one memory stick only. Lots of peeps are having a heck of a time with XP installing on this board with all the junk on it at the same time, wierd, but who knows...
