What video card to get?

Hi all,

I just built a new system. Spec as follows: Abit IS7, P4 2.4C, 512 3200 DDR, and being the cheap fellow that I am I kept my Gainward Geforce 3 thinking it would be ok. It's not. It seems to be the bottleneck on my system. Even clocked at 240/540, using any kind of AA or AF is out of the question. Anyhow, I don't want to shell out for a 5900 ultra, but I could get either the regular 5900 or the ATI 9800 non pro. I'm sure I could get stock ultra and pro speeds out of both by oc'ing. What do you think? Thanx in advance for replying.

Best Regards,
Simon

If you're looking at AA and AF go with the ATI 9800 for sure. It benchmarks in those areas well above the fx5900.

I'm a penny pincher, so my vote would be Radeon 9800.

i personally wouldn't spend 200-300 on a video card, but if i were u, probably the 9800 since it costs a little less then the 5900 non-ultra. if you do get the 5900 non-ultra it can in fact be easily OC'd to ultra specs which would save you a nice 100 bucks

Definitely get ATI for AA and AF. It's vastly superior picture quality and the frame rates don't drop nearly as much as GF line. I got a 9800NP on the way. $244 from gameve.com for OEM version.

I would go with the Radeon 9800, it also has a better image quality and the AA and AF. U can also go to www.newegg.com

Thanx all,

I'm a huge Nvidia fan, but for now I'll get the 9800 and oc it. I'll have to upgrade again when pci express debuts anyway. Thanx
