programing question.
I'm not sure if this is in the right forum or not, but i want to know if anyone has any idea about this. I want to design a program that will send me the ip address of the computer when it connects to the internet. For instance, you could check to see if a tcp/ip port is connected, and if so have some way of copying that value, and use some kind of sendto command that would email or send me that address while I am at another computer. I don't even know if there is a way to do this but I was curious.
Thanks all,
Dragontech

Not sure exactly what you're lookign for...
You could set up a personal firewall to detect if there is an invalid connection made and have it email you... (think TiNY does this but not sure... )
Or do you want something like if somebody connects to Kazaa email you!!??!
Give a scenario?

vass,
I'm not exactually sure what I want either. Well it's kinda for security reasons on my brother's computer. I want to know when he connects to the interent and when he does I want to have a background program running that will detect that and send me his ip address. I'm not at the same location that he is at so I can't just run over and look at it.
Does that help any?

Ah ok
So You're in California.. and your brother is in New York (hypothetically)
So you want when your brother to come online to send you an email of what his IP is?
Sounds like a trojan to me
Yes its possible...

Is there any way you can get him to load something on his computer? There are apps that will do this from HIS end easy enough, but need to running on his computer.
Is that an option?
Cheers

dnyDNS services work ok, but you need it installed on his side.
In truth it sounds more like a Trojan that you're looking for, and people here won't help you with that.
Could you be more specific about what you want?

mickwish,
If I can have it run at startup so that he dosn't know it then, yes I could add something if I happen to be there. I think I'm taking a trip there here in the next few days so if I could find either the app or code before then it would be great.
Thanks,

Hmm, I was thinking of something like \The Lock, but not sure if you can completely hide it.
I'll keep checking stuff. Maybe one of the romote access apps will have that kind of feature.
Cheers

| what you are asking is trojan based. Im not sure why you would want this sort of thing on your brothers computers as it could expose his very own computer to someone else and have a major impact on his security.
There are plenty of websites and programs to build trojans.
and from the sound of you, you dont want him to know. PM me more about this topic and a valid reason for doing this.
for now its locked
