BIOS...I'm lost

I've heard that upgrading your BIOS will give you a better system performance. My question: Is that true, and if so, how am I able to do it?

My System:

AMD AthlonXP 2100+
1024 Megs PC2700 RAM
ASUS A7V333 MotherBoard
80 gig IBM 7200 RPM HD

Any and all replies would be greatly appreciated!

bios updates can be a good thing or a bad thing

are you having any problems with your system right now?

bios updates can allow your motherboard to support faster cpus among other things

here is the newest bios update you can do.

(but i suggest if you never have done this to hold off and read about how to update it, because if you mess up you SOL in most cases and will have to buy a new bios chip)

yours is the a7x333-X correct?

No, generally it will not, except in the rare case where there was a severe problem with the initial bios. All hardware manufacturers recommend that you do not update your bios unless there is a need (ie, your current bios is giving your trouble).

It you want to investigate updating your bios then you should visit the web site of your motherboard manufacturer, that's where any new bios files would be found along with instruction how to do update your hardware.

here is the page that describes the bios upgrades available and if you click "more" under each it pops up a description of what it improved or fixed...

If your not experiencing problems or a lack of performance, a bios flash can either go flawlessly and quick or can become a nightmare that causes you to lose a good mobo.

This is a good link for understandig and possibly tweaking your current bios to perform better.
