Remember when they said you would never need that 40 meg hard drive.

When I bought my first PC they tried to just sell me a second 5 1/4 in drive. They told me I would never need anything more than that.

Remember when Bill Gates said that we'll never need more than 640K?

It shows that nobody knows what the future will bring.

My first HD was 10MB. Now I can carry 100 times that on my keychain at a fraction of the cost. I returned a 66MHz CPU once in exchange for a 25MHz CPU because I thought it was too fast.

I remember paying $20 each for 256K 30pin sticks at the army surplus. Later I paid $15 per 1meg 30pin stick and finally got 8 megs of mem for my 386 sx16. Those were the good ol' days?

My first computer back in 1980 was a Sharp MZ80K and had a big 48KB memory which was spread over 24 x 2KB chips. The Z80 processor ran at about 2Mhz or thereabouts. Great machine for the time though.

Duke, when did you first buy a PC?

There have been many such flashback threads in last two years. Interesting how fast technology progresses.

My first PC was a 386 with 4MB, 256 MB drive, DOS 6.22 and Windows 3.1 and office 4.3.

Worked pretty well. Boot up to C:\> and type win to fire up windows.

Cost me about $1200 give or take.

Had a floppy drive, a CD drive (1X) and a Creative Sound card.

This was in 1994--just 9 years ago.

But you know what? The case was the same. No change in the beige color or size as we buy today.
