Opera vs. I.E.
Fellow Browsers:
Is it just my system or my senses, or is Internet Explorer a faster loading browser than Opera?
I began using Opera v.7 a few weeks ago and love the look and features, though it does not run certain macromedia programs in my experience.
But certain pages (even TechIMO) upon occasion seem to take longer to load. Any similar experiences? I use Win2KPro and DSL.
Thx.

I agree. But Opera has some advantages like no pop ups and the option to open windows in the background.
Look and feel of version 7 is excellent.

TechIMO has been chunking a lot lately.
Have you cleared all of your cached documents under Opera?
One more thing to consider - so many web pages are written by M$ authoring tools, which tools embed so much IE optimized code, remember the fiasco last spring where MSN was sending Opera code that deliberately failed????

| Thanks!
I appreciate the feedback ... it does seem to be TechIMO for the most part.

Yeh Brangwen --
I've only noticed TIMO being slow lately while on DSL.
When I was on dial-up, Opera was always faster!

I have noticed IE is faster on some pages, but with the features IE lacks its not worth using IMO

For loading pages from scratch, they are pretty similar. For going back, opera is always faster for me. When I hit the back button in opera, it loads the page from memory. When I hit the back button in IE, it loads from the server again which is a hell of a lot slower. IE has made me so mad I wanted to smash my computer because of that. For example, in Opera, if I try to make a post and I get some error, I can hit the back button and my whole reply is there in the text box. I can copy the to clipboard so I have a backup incase I have to reload the techimo page. In IE, if I hit back, MY ENTIRE POST IS GONE! I have to make the whole thing over again.
If you include the time it takes to remake the post, I would say Opera is 10x as fast.

I enjoy Opera more because of the no pop-ups, and multiple windows in one opera browser.
Of course right now I am on Linux so I don't think I want to use IE anyway. |
