K7S5A Overclocking (again)

Currently I have a K7S5A-L rev 3.0, with the cheepoman bios.
I have a XP1700+@1.61ghz (147 fsb) with 512mb Crucial PC133.
I've just ordered some PC2700 DDR ram, and was wondering if anyone has had any luck getting this board up to 166mhz FSB?

I was reading a few threads over at ocworckbench and it looks promising but from what I see there have been several issues reguarding ddr. I think the big problem might be the fact that the mulitplier is locked as well as the vcore, might cause some issues there but ya never know till ya try. Personaly on my pro board I can't get over 147/147 with sdram and even then its not 100% stable. Might be the ram or psu tho

Well with pc2700 and a good psu the only thing that can hold ya back is the mobo really. So let us know. Will benefit all K7S5A owners.

Right, I fitted some PC2700, and pulled off that crappy chipset HS. I scraped all the tape off that and the chip itself with a knife (putting serveral holes in my chip I might add ) and put some Coolermaster Compound on (No AS2 left, and I can't be bothered ordering more atm, I've just spent £50 on ram and £160 on a TFT) glued the HS back on.
This has had absolutley no effect. It still crashes when I start X if I try and go above 147/147. Its a Rev 3 board, and I was told on OC workbench that this shouldn't have much of a problem if I redid the chipset heatsink.
The CPU is an XP1700+ DUT3C. I lapped the core a little bit as well. My temps have dropped like 3/4 degrees so it never goes over 36 full load now. The board temp registers as lower too.
As I said before, the PSU is a 350W one I got with the case, but I tested the inputs with a meter, and they're all ok. I might be pushing it a bit hard though, here's what I have ATM:
3 hard disks (2x 7200RPM, 1 5400)
3 optical drives (CDROM, DVD and CDRW)
Floppy
Coolermaster HAC-001 X Dream running at full pelt
2x coolermaster 80mm LED fans
1x evercool 80mm fan
Reckon its time for a PSU upgrade? I don't really want to though, unless this is going to give me a real chance of hitting 166fsb with this puppy, which I doubt it would.

Not always but often the generic PSU that comes with the case is has poor output.
Use Aida32 to check what your actuall output is...If its not REAL close to tolerances then you would definitly benefit from a newer better PSU.
actually the best fix for the chipset heatsink is a better heatsink and active cooling. then stock heatsink is really a piece of cr_p and for a quality overcock on this board every little bit helps.
This article may help as well.

The power shouldn't affect anything, as it runs fine at 147mhz, I'm not increasing the voltage at all, and don't want to mod my board, or can't as I don't have a decent solding iron with small enough bits.
These boards aren't meant to support high FSBs, and I can't up the cpus voltage either way.

Right, I can run it at 166mhz FSB. I reckon the reason it was crashing was the PCI clock at 150 ended up being 28mhz, which isn't really good enough. However, at 166 (when set using speedfan in Windows) it runs great, and I can play games and run THINK all day long, as well as have it run 3dmark and superpi for a couple of hours each. Here's the catch: I don't use windows, only on the odd occasion.
So, when I try setting this speed in the BIOS, it just won't work, and doesn't even get as far as the POST screen, meaning I have to pull all my IDE wires out to get to the reset jumper. I don't get this.
Does anyone know if there is a similar program for Linux to CPUfsb or Speedfan? This way I could just write an init script for it and I'd be sorted. I've looked at CPUDyn, but I don't think thats for this sort of thing.
