WinTv Card - VCR Input Problem

http://www.hauppauge.com/

Hi There,

Does anyone have any clue as to why this TV card wont see my VCR? It's connected in normally, like I'd connect it to the TV, but I see nothing that is on the VCR, I just get static.

The cable itself works fine when I directly connect the Cable itself to the capture card but I honestly didn't get this thing just to watch TV. Thats another thing that confuses me. How come it works when directly plugged in but when it goes from the CABLE he VCR, to the TV it acts like it's not connected at all?

I've hit the source button on the TV Cards Software and got a blue screen and thought maybe I had luck but then again I already had something playing in the VCR to test it so that didnt help. Then I hit the TV/VCR button on the VCR itself to no avail. And of course I put the tuner/capture card on channel 3.

I'd really appreciate if anybody could give me any advice as to why it might not be working and how to fix it.

Thanks.

Does your card have S-video in? It must. My Hauppauge TV card has S-video and it's the absolute bottom of the line Hauppauge card. (WinTV-GO)

Anyways, connect your video out from the VCR to the S-video in on the TV card. Then connect your audio out from the VCR to the AUX in on your sound card.

That works beautifully with my setup.

Ok, thanks.

I got the cable to work but I'll try that later too. I wanna see which quality is better.

for some reason the quality from the cable is poor as hell. It's all staticy and fuzzy but the cables are all tight. Would you happen to know why? Is it the cable wire itself?

The TV itself isnt fuzzy but the cable connection is. Is Svideo fuzzy at all?

No. S-video should be a clean signal. As long as you use a good quality RCA jack to make the connection.

1 More Question:

Does the Svideo Cable also Double as an Output Jack aside from being just Input?

My goal of getting the card was to actually record low-filezise video game sequences. That way I'd output and record to the VCR then import via TV Card and save via AVI Capture which is supported to create ingame movies…

I know this is possible, but would I be able to record to the VCR and watch it on the Monitor at the same time instead of the watching it on the TV? The TV is really really really low res (like 640x480) and I play at around (1600x1200) or (1280x1024). Would this have any impact on the VCR Cassette Recording?

If it means anything I also have a Radeon 9500 Pro....would I be able to use all this or any of it in conjuction (VCR-TV CAPTURE-RADEON) to create high-quality videos?

I appreciate any replies.
Thanks.

Not if you keep talking like that.

AFAIK the S-video connector does not double as an output jack. I'm not sure that would even be possible.
