Help me!! Wireless router dropping internet

Here is my general setup: Comcast cable --> Wireless router with 4 port switch (linksys BEFW11S4) ---> wireless cards/2 computers in my basement/back to another 4-port router (BEFSR41 Cable/DSL Router) --> my machine in my bedroom, along with 2 other computers

I just added the wireless segment of the network recently, and ever since I did, my internet has been unstable at best. Downloads time out after a few minutes, its extremely spikey, and I can't stay connected to AIM for more than a few minutes. I might expect some packet loss and coverage dropping if I were using the wireless aspect of it, but I am completely wired at this point. Any suggestions on what I could do to remedy this situation?
Here are some of my thoughts, but will probably be a pain and I would like a second opinion before I start anything:

1. Switch the position of the wireless and the 'wired' router in the network scheme.
2. Download all the firmware updates, although reading the descriptions of the updates yields nothing of importance.
3. Try a wireless card in this computer, skipping a segment of the network... hopefully freeing up some confusion.
4. Say screw it all and get drunk.

Where in the settings would I change that.. the demand thing. Also I'm looking for a good TFTP client to update the firmware as it would probably be good to do anyways.
