In your opinnion, what Linux Distro is best for u?

Just wondering, what distro of Linux do you use, and why? whats so great about it and whats the not so great thing about it.

I gave linux a try a few months ago.... i started with mandrake 8.0 not bad... i liked it... but i never learned how to configure the "sound" so i hated it.

I tried Redhat 8.0 not bad either, i noticed no mp3 support, didnt know how to add that later.

Point is dat now i know how to do some things, I've been using Mandrake 9.1 for quite a while now and i have noticed differences between REdhat and Mandrake.

What distro do u use and why? just wondering

I change my distro almost every 2 weeks now, because I can't find one I truly like. I'm on gentoo now. so far, my favorite was Connectiva, and I thought Debain had the most potential if it weren't for the fact I can't get testing to work.

-edit- Mdk-9.1 is great too, but it didn't have apt or a similar program. Many have told me to use urpmi, but no one explained anything beyond that. the man page for urpmi didn't mention auto-=package installation or anything similar.

Mandrake 9.1 suits me best.

hey Redwolf, urpmi is cake honestly

just add the mirrors from this site and hit the "proceed to step 3" button and it will tell you the commands to enter in a termianall for adding those sources.

after that its pretty basic

as root:
urpmi packagename - to install and get dependencies

urpme - to remove

I've found that the distro I like the most is Slackware. Altho, I like Red Hat 9 as well.

SuSE Linux 8.3 (or whatever the newest version is, i always seem to forget it )

i bought it, 2 DVDs and 5 CDs and everything you want! it was just awsome, now i can play some windows games on Linux, lot of fun, so i dont have to change from linux to windows all the time!

I was a big slackawre fan, except it had no way to easily upgrade packages.

Debian however offers the best update system around. Add in the fact it is quick responsive and allows me to keep it trim and sleek and we have a winner.
