Sorry if I posted this in the wrong place but not sure quit where to put it

Dose anyone know of a way to block Opera(as in the browser)from a web page as it just gives far to much info away I have been trying out diff methods and none work from redirecting it to perl, php scripts but the damn thing get round all of them one way or another.

As it can now disguise its self as IE, netscape, Motzilla

Just wondered if anyone have come accross this and had a solution for it. My main reason for wanting to do this is I run a download's page I dont want hot linking to my files

Opera offers someone who wants to hotlink no more information than they can get with any other browser. This is NOT an effective solution to stop hotlinking and will do you little good.

For a real solution to this look here

What do you mean, you have me worried now! are you talking about "refferer logging"? which can be disabled in the options! or is there something else I need to be aware of?

well that sorted out the hot linking from another site, but dose not resolve my main problem, for all other browsers by using a anti leech script to hide the URL the download folder is safe but opera just ignors the antileeach script and shows where the download is coming from.

so ie http://www.yourisp.com/downloads/whatever.zip
the above can then be just pasted into browser and handed around to get the dowloads direcrly, the rewrite engine dose not seem to stop this.

or am i in need of another tutorial

I would be more scared of users who have Download Accelerator. When a download que is sent to DAP, it shows the exact location of the file being downloaded and can be copied to the clipboard.

Look at the top where it says URL.

spy/add crap - that don't worry me unless i downloaded it.
if it dose not know the the location its usless.

Personaly if i was going to use a dl/manager it would ne getright
http://www.getright.com
and thats not the point of this topic

so a warning tested 30 download sites and only 2 rejected opera
from obtaining the download address
1st just said no opera/netscape/mozilla
2nd could block it from the server

so it can be done - but how !

If they really want to remote host on you, they will.

Blocking browsers won't do squat because they'll just use download accelerator (VERY popular program) to get the link to the file. Your little apache htaccess thing doesn't work if they directly link to it, by that I mean they actually copy the url into the address bar and hit enter. That htaccess thing only works when people click on the link from another site.
Do you ever remember seeing anybody on this or any forum saying "don't click the link, put it in the address bar and hit enter"? That is to avoid remote hosting blockers.

what you say 4 the most I would not argue or dispute those facts
excpet about DLA.

By simply just having the rewrite engine on a quick paste and your in.
But I have hit a few sites where doing the paste into the add bar dose not work and this is what i was trying to find out.
I have also tryed a few download managers with these sites and it just make's them hang up and they just sit there for ever trying to get the download.

Fileplanet does that somehow. It makes some dynamic link that is only valid for 30 minutes or so.
