Staroffice permissions and linux

Hi all,
I installed staroffice 6.0 as the root, and placed it in /root/staroffice6.0. My question is how do i make it possible for all users to use it.
When i click on the properties and set permissions from root to 'adrian' it doesnt change it and when i re-check the options it has reverted back to its original settings.

Please help I dont want to reinstall it as a normal user.

The ideal is to install staroffice as root (you need access to /usr) with the /net switch.

This will install anywhere you tell it to but it's not a user install, ie each user can then run /usr/local/soffice/programs/setup and make his own istall out if it (only 3MB) in his space.

This is the network installation and it is suggested if more than one user wants to use the it ((or you use two user names).

im glad pbharris gave me the link to this thread as i had the same issue. i went back in as root and uninstalled and then reinstalled it as myself, a regular user and put it in a local directory. i have this problem of thinking whenever i need to install something, i change to root. guess you just need to be root to enter the ROOT directory!

thanx

SD
