Issue starting Inspiron 7000

I have a Dell Inspiron that only starts about 1 out of every 10 tries. The power light comes on, the fan starts up (then spins down) , then ....nothing.

I have tried:

Removing memory, all pcmcia cards, battery, dvd/flop drive, resetting system, tightening the case screws, and everythng Dell has suggested.

I am thinking the Motherboard is flaking.
Dell wants $1G to fix the Out of warranty board....yes, that's right one thooouuuusand dollars.

My question:

For someone that has never cracked a laptop open (but can build/configure/etc regular PCs) is it difficult to replace the mobo on this?

definetely possible, not too difficult either. dell has instructions on how to do it. you will need some fine tools, like o, or oo philips-screwdriver. but then, i wouldn't know, where to get a laptop mobo...maybe ebay?

They wanted $1,000 to fix it themselves, or if i can do it myself then I should just order the board from them.

Where are the instructions? ( I am going to search but if you know where exactly, that would help)

****Found it

I had the same thing on my Dell Inspiron 4000. It was around $1000 for Dell to do it. I'm living with it for now as I can't even afford the replacement board yet.
