Amd 2500+ barton

Hey guys , i just bought this chip today because about 10 people told me that the reason i was getting low FPS in games was because my CPU couldn't keep up with my Radeon 9500pro ( old cpu was a 2000+ xp) now , i got this chip running and i though why not overclock it ? well in idle the temp is about 45c , and that is at 1.83ghz here ( normal speed) , so i wonder how much i could push it without the temps getting 2 high .. anyone here own a 2500 barton and go any insight?

Specs
amd 2500+ barton
Volcano 9 with Artic silver 3
Asus A7v8x-x board
768mb ram of Pc2100 ( i know i need to upgrade that soon)
Ati radeon 9500 pro
one 40gig maxtor hdd
one 80gig maxtor hdd
5 fans inside ( 2 pushing in , 3 out)
Lg burner 52x24x52
cd-rom
floppy !!!!!!! wow! haha .... just bored ... :P
umm thats all you must need to know right ?
if you need any other info just let me know

Thx guys

These 10 or so people who told you this are sadly mistaken. That processor can run with the 9500 pro without a hitch. What games are you playing that you thing you're getting low fps on? The barton 2500 is very overclockable. I have mine running at 215fsbx10.5 with stock hs running at 48c at full load. You mention that your cpu is running 45c at idle? That's way high, especially with your volcano 9 and asIII. If your cpu is indeed running that high at idle, I would hold off on oc'ing and get those tepm under control first.

Agreed really no reason to upgrade that old proc *shrug*

Anyways.. you may want to re-look at your AS III coverage on the processor... you may have too much (veryeasy to do, been there done that)

You want it razor thin covering the core.. anymore than that and it starts working like an insulator instead of a conductor )

I also have the 2500 running at around 40C under full load
(not OC'd)
.. and thats with stock HSF

Vantec Aeroflow HSF
2500+ AQXDA stepping (3200+ core)
1.65 vcore

running 2215mhz (faster than 3200+) and temps are same as stock were. As the vcore didnt change neither did cpu watts hence temp same. Max temp at full load is 41c. Idle is 33c.

I think you might be needing a better power supply. try an Antec TruePower 430 or 480 watt.

Would the power supply really stop me from running my chip at the normal clock speed?

Might, depends on the quality of your power supply. Please give wattage, brand and amp ratings.

Sounds like you may need to re- install your cooler or add more fans?? I have a coolermaster aero 7 and 4 -80mm fans + 1-8gb boot drive and 2 sata 80 gb drives on an fic au13 in a HOT room(avg.75F and I run at 32C at idle. I have one corsair xms 2700 256 + 1 kingston value ram 2700 -256 if that is any help. They work great together.

Probably your sticks of PC2100 RAM that run @266Mhz and your CPU runs @333Mhz FSB. You need PC2700 RAM.
