What else cause random rebooting? thanks.

I m helping my bro's computer. He got overheat issue. But I helped him to get a new Fan and other stuff to keep chipest cool. But a few days later, the problem appears again. It isnt chipest. His Power Supply is 420 watts. It should be no plm. Please tell me what should I check to curb the power and heat?

When the problem does appear? When he is playing any game, like CCG and CS. It s no problem and if he want to surfing some site or chatting with someone on AIM or whatever to using desktop. It causes the random shut down, not game?

Is it possible cause random shut down by 3d card? He got Gti4600.

Thanks.

How's the power in the neighborhood? Do you get frequent brownouts or fluctuations? That is a common problem. Having a good quality PSU helps, having a battery back-up helps more.

A few computers ago I had a problem like that, where it would lock up during 3d. I figured it was my motherboard not putting out enough power for the video card, but it could also have been drivers (I upgraded before I worked it out, but the motherboard was questionable so I'm pretty sure it was responsible).

Do you have a different video card you could try and see if it still happens?

Most of the time I see random reboots, it's because of the memory, if you have other memory try replacing it.

The other cause is ecessive overclocking of the memory or it's timings, (try a higher CAS timing).

Before you start replacing ram, use a memory test program. There are a few at http://webattack.com

My computer used to crash all the time when the motherboard was burned out. It overheated a bunch of times and the capacitors started to go south. Replaced the motherboard and it works beautifuly. There's probably a way to test the motherboard but I don't know of any such test.
