What to buy?

I have an older 4.1 set of Labtec speakers and it's time to upgrade. Sound quality aside, what frustrates me about these speakers is that the volume control is on one of the front speakers meaning the speaker *must* be on the desk. I'd like to get something that allows me to better position the speakers off the desk and have a break out box or remote.

I was looking at the Creative DTT2500 but then the Logitech Z-560 caught my eye - mainly because the styling is a little more updated and the speaker stands also function as wall mounts. However, i'm not sure if it's wise to take the 4.1 Logitech's over the 5.1 Creatives!?! Any opinions?

I'm basically looking to use this system for music/games and maybe the odd movie while i'm working - I have a separate surround system in the livingroom for DVD's.

TIA.

well if you're not going to use it for more than some music and stuff, and not for dvd surround sound, you should be fine with the logitech 4.1s, especially if you don't want to spend more money than you need to.

4.1 Logitechs over the 5.1 Creatives any day... I have never cared for the creatives sound head to head over Logitech or Klipsch.
Just my 2 cents

Creative's Inspire 5.1s do have that nifty volume control remote, which also functions as a headphone connetion. For my small computer room, the Inspires work just fine with my Santa Cruz sound card.

i think he means that logitech runs circles around creative speakers - and i have to agree with that.

logitech makes some nice speaks.

i want to put in my 2 cents.

if you are going to watch a lot of movies - it will be VERY BENEFICIAL to you if you indulged yourself in some 5.1s - 4.1s just do not cut it - even with the phantom center - effects are muffled and the positioning isnt as great.

however, if you do not care so much about positioning and the likes (i.e. you dont even want to trouble yourself of setting up the rear speakers behind you sort of deal) then the 4.1s are fine.

try to buy speaks that you will be more than satisfied with - or u'll end up regretting and kicking yourself in the future.

the 560s are nice - and the sub is boomy - perfect for dvds.
the 680s are even better and for 250 - u cant beat that especially with the external decoder and the extra channel (center).

however, the best would most likely be the up and coming promedia ultra 5.1 but that would most likely cost an arm and a leg.

if you want a 5.1 speaker set with ample bass and a 2-way speaker design (unlike logitechs, like klipsch) meaning you have a midrange woofer (usually 3inches) and a tweeter (dedicated to high frequencies, i.e. voices, bullets) then go to OVERSTOCK.com and search for some altec lansing THX certified 5.1 setup for 129.99. if i were you - that would be the BEST deal around.
