how do you overclock a Video Card???

Yea how do you? Someone please enlighten me. Iam dilly with things like this. I can make a webpage really nice, but cant make my vid card work good. .lol. I have an ati 9600 pro 256mb which runs at depressingly low speeds.

324mhz core clock
203mhz memory clock

Thanks

Tony

From one tony to another, here's the scoop. Go out and download Powerstrip. All you have to do is move a set of sliders to OC. Its the best out there for n00b's and h@rdcore users.

I already told you to go download Powerstrip

Google it!

Its an awesome program.... ive used it for 6 months overclocking my Gforce 4 MX440 SE 64mb 4x AGP

It now runs like an ti4200+

No heat issues or anything

its a real bummer about the 256MB version of the Radeon 9600Pro... they used their excess 5.0 ns chips so that they could make some money back from their radeon 8500 ram.

the 128MB versions have 2.8ns ram on them, and absolutely smoke the 256 version because their clocks are something like 75 percent higher. if i owned the 256 i would get all kinds of copper heatspreaders for it, and OC it to the moon, just so i could get a decent performing card.

i changed my mind from the 256 version, and decided to get the 128 version because of this.

what kind of performance jump did you recieve?

I downloaded PowerStrip and it will not let me overclock my video card. I try to move the bars, but they will not move.

try rage3d tweak if you have a ati cards.
it's so easy to use and integrates well into display control panel.

I used to use a program called Riva Tuner. Maybe its not the best one out there, but its the easiest I have used so far. Powerstrip was OK, but I still prefer Riva Tuner though. Guess it depends on the person. Be sure to not overclock it too much, that can damage the video card, and other parts of the computer. Make also sure that you have a nice cooling system since that card will overheat if not.

Thats what I use, with some additional cooling my 9700pro runs as fast as a 9800xt (412mhz/730mhz) compared to its default settings of 324mhz/620mhz, very nice overcloaking ratio.
