OC wont stay
Hey, all I decided to do some slight overclocking of my 1700+ on a Gigabyte 7vrxp (2.0) mobo using the F12 BIOS.
I have Crucial PC2100 RAM so I know I won't be able to go far with the FSB, but I was able to get it 150 MHZ, might hold at 151, but 152 gives me memory access errors.
Anyway at 150 the system is stable and runs fine, but when I turn my comp off for the night, and turn it on in the morning the FSB automaticaly backs down to 133.
Anyone know why this happens and how to stop it, asaide from runing my system 24/7.
I have not tried changing it and rebooting yet, so I am not sure if this is only when the system is powered down or when the system is rebooted yet.

I had an old Asus A7V133 mobo that behaved similarly. I'd OC my TBird 1.2/200 to 1.4/266 and up vcore to 1.85 using the BIOS "soft menu" feature, but most of the time it would reset to default speeds upon shutdown and reboot. Ultimately, I used jumpers on the mobo to "hard set" vcore, fsb speed and cpu multiplier once I had established the best settings that system would toplerate.

damn that sucks for me, since the only jumpers I have on my mobo are for clock ratio, and FSB (3 options only, auto, 100, 133).

Keep the faith!

Well I am not giving up yet.
I will look around the BIOS and try some stuff, and see what happens.
Whish me luck.

| What's it set to? It could be set to 133, which would make it set back to 133 after a poweroff, or it could be set to auto, in which case it might read the CPU name string and set it accordingly.
So, try switching the setting and see if that helps.

Sry I just checked the manual and the mobo, and it actually has only two options, 100 and 133.

i have the same motherboard too, but only with an xp1800... I have the same problem... I haven't had much luck overclocking the board, I think around 150-155 is the highest I've gone... Anything else and it becomes unstable & locks up...
Any info. is appreciated! |

Yo Purple... If your BIOS dosen't show some of the settings you want, they might be available using something like BIOS Tweak.

Sometimes a new bios update will fix cold boot issues
