Need a Linux guru to look at another thread.

Sorry to make another thread but this one is kinda odd, its a network device running embedded Linux. I need someone with good linux knowledge to look at another thread for me: http://www.techimo.com/forum/t73919.html .

The jist of what I am trying to do now, is find where it pulls its default conifg from (ip address and such).

I have grepped the whole tree to no avail.

Once I get this figured out the next step will be to get it back into the .bin file, I am sure I will need help there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, there are alot of cool possiblities in there to change the logos on the web pages and such.

For config stuff, look in /etc. If it runs a normal dhcp server look in /etc/dhcp and so on.
For web-based admin stuff, it could be in a few different places, look through /var and also /opt as its embedded. You might even find something in /usr.
If you give me a link to the bin file and tell me how to mount it, I'll have a look for you, or I'm sure someone else will.

ok, it all seems to be written using active server pages (asp) the images for the web interface are in /www/image, these are all the stuff for the bar accross the top of your web interface. I presume these can be changed without much hassle. Everything else seems hardcoded, you could probably put in all your local IP addys in /etc/hosts, but there's not much point if your using it for DHCP (in fact it would be a really bad idea)
Anyway, everything is in /www/ play about, edit the pics and pages as much as you like.

Not using it for DHCP. Ideally what I would want to do is change the default subnet to something other than 192.168.1.0/24, I couldnt find any reference to that. Perhaps it is hardcoded in the router and it reads that? Or could it be in the part of the file that was stripped of during the dd?

Some interesting info found here: http://www.seattlewireless.net/index...4g?action=edit

I may have to hook up with these guys to see if this is possible.

Further research tells me that the 192.168.1 is hardcoded into the binaries. Not sure how to deal with this, or if it is worth it. Would certainly be more of an acadmic exercise than a worthwhile task.

I guess if one was inclined you could rework it to do different things and resell it/rebox it. Not sure about the legality, but I would assume it to be safe since everything there is GPL. Perhaps rework something like ipcop to run on it. Wouldnt that be spiffy... But, there is already someone out there doing it with CF in an "appliance" type box.
