AMD Barton 2500+ = what in pentium standards

I'm a complete n00b at this.
I just bought a barton 2500+ and just curious on what it matches up against as far as intel pentium chipset

= 2.5 Ghz in Intel standards

Welcome to TechIMO

Its actually 1.83 Ghz for AMD, but it ranks in comparison to a 2.5Ghz intel.

Honestly, from what I've dealt with in AMD and Intel, I have to say as far as performance goes, I would say it is close to a 2.4 or 2.5ghz. As for stability, I would have to say about 1.6ghz. I hate to knock AMD, because they are SOOOOO cheap incomparison and much better economically, but as far as stability goes, I have to go against the grain. Sorry, AMD.

Actually the XPs get their model numbers from comparing them to the T-birds. As to the XP2500 the T-bird would have to run at 2.5 ghz to match it. It's just coincidence that it's comparable to P4s. If you were to match the core speeds of the XPs and the P4s (xp 1.83 vs p4 1.8) then ? Sorry Intel.

But AMD has added more pipelines and instruction units, whereas intel has really just added SSE2 and worked more on the clock speed.
Christian-Comp: Where do you get this silly idea that AMD chips are unstable? The only time they will crash is if you can't be bothered cooling them properly. A P4 may not crash, but you can still damage it by running it at a higher temp (even if it doesn't happen for ages)
The only reason this PR+ Rating system came to be is because intel (and its vendors) came up with slogans like "Clock speed is the only TRUE measure of CPU performance" and started plastering them on ads. Up until the AthlonXP, the design of chips meant that if you had two chips from different manufacturers at the same clock, you would get roughly the same performance.

AMD is definitely not for a noob especially with all the heat issues.

Eh? Now I like amd here. But htats just wrong. P4 has 20 stage pipeline amd 10. AMD hasnt added any since way back like P2 era talking here. Aint broke dont fix it. P4 needs more mem bandwidht to keep the 20 stages full vs. 10 of athlon which are filled on std. ddr mem of today! P4 did only add SSE2 though that is correct. AMD added extended vs. of 3dnow and a Xp style tweaked sse. SSE2 is available on AMD's now too-starting with Opteron.

Depends? You oclock? My 2500+ is at 3200+ on stock vcore max temp of 41c/105 or so F.. So compaired to P4? Wouldnt be sure though I know the 3200+ is over rated by amd I have to say. Id think 2.8gig P4 or so. FOR $90 WoWsers. I got the 3200+ stepping the AQXDA. the AQXEA is newest but oclocks about the same.
