Spam spam spam

I've been noticing my junk mail increasing, i know there have been many discussions about how to stop spam.

Right now it's just getting worse and really needs to be dealt with.
The only solution that could work that i could think of.
People who spam or as they think of it "advertise",(which i have yet to even buy anything from them). My idea is to have them sign up for email services to spam to. If not they will either get banned or fined.

When doing this they sign up for categories for which they will advertise.
That way people who don't need their bust size increased or porn won't get porn.
but instead choose categories and which will help market to right people who need to right people and peoples inbox diets to smooth out evenly, or atleast to a reasonable level.
If they choose to opt out completely then so be it.

This is about the only way i can see to do something about this because i emptied my junk mail 3 times yesterday and got 30 in the morning. I can go a week, 200 emails in just one of my accounts.

I now have my account on sending all emails to my junk mail and have contacts are either in my quick list or safe list going to my inbox.
I can only block soo many.. so that isn't a solution.

I still have to check it incase i missed an email or get an actual email. As you can see all these extra steps just aren't worth it. This is getting out of hand.
If you have any ideas to add to this or your own i would like to please hear them as something has to be done.

You should try one of the new Bayesian filters. They work wonderfully according to friends that use them.

Quote:
Bayesian spam filters calculate the probability of a message being spam based on its contents. Unlike simple content-based filters, Bayesian spam filtering learns from spam and from good mail, resulting in a very robust, adapting and efficient anti-spam approach, that, best of all, returns hardly any false positives.

One of the most promising antidotes to spam is so-called Bayesian filtering, which calculates the probability that a given message is spam, based on analysis of messages previously identified as being spam or not being spam. The Bayesian approach demands less maintenance than keyword-based spam filters that require constant updating of word and phrase lists.
I think there are several free Outlook ones floating around. I will see what I can find.

Well ok that looks good, but i use web based mail mainly, however the pop3 one i use i use with mozilla.
My point is, there has to be something done, we have to do all these extra steps just to maintain order in spam, i get upset when lets say filters may chuck out your email.
We shouldn't be the ones to suffer, i would rather have a reasonable solution than a quick fix. Especially since this doesn't help everyone.
Thanks for your help i appreciate it, but imo i think spam is really getting out of control.

I agree wholeheartedly. I have the advantage of running the mail server for my mail. For the 3 active users on it, I get about 100-120 a day, which amounts to about 40% of the inbound mail.

At work our SMTP gateways stop literally millions of spam messages a day, each requiring bandwith, CPU time, and disk space (since we dont just chuck em). So, each of these unwanted messages cost us money. There is a large movement to stop this, but the mail standards are so old and deep rooted that it will take years to effectively change.

I wish there was a better solution....

If any thing is to be done with spam, i really think spammers shouldn't be able to spam business email. It isn't the crowd they should be marketing towards anyhow because that's not what that sort of email is for. Heck it could even get you fired if you actually started buying stuff while at work

When it comes to personal things and you get something thrown out, most of the times it pisses you off but you'll go on.

When it comes to business's, this can cause serious problems. If you lose an important email, you may lose money and all sort of things can get upset or cause some damage to a company.

I've lost a few emails myself, none pertaining to job related matters. Just some from friends and family, some of my mail being filtered goes away after a few days. It's upsetting.
I'm just getting fed up with spam, i have read a few articles on the movenment of which you speak of, i hope they come up with something reasonable.

I used to have my own email setup at home.

I've found it very fun to do, but in my situation, sure it's nice, i had fun setting it up and using it, but not the most suitable thing for me. I would need a dedicated server to run something to suit my needs. So i have stopped on that idea.
However I may look later into this again, but sometimes i do get too much downtime. Either that or too much traffic from the ftp.

I can only hope there is a better solution to spam than filter. I'm not saying any harm to them, I know it's just a way they advertise and make money. That's why I think this idea really could work, they get to appeal to the crowds that suit them. However I'm not saying that you choose what you would like to be spammed with and you automattically get mail. It would ruin the sport of spammers

If they find your email then they get to spam it, but atleast get it right.

The opt out thing may worry spammers, but as I said, I haven't responded to my spam before , so why start?

I mute commercials on tv because they bother me soo much, especially tampon commercials and cell phone commercials, i just don't need to see that while i'm eating
