hp pavilion 8590c help
Hello....I just got an HP Pavilion model#8590c for $10.- at a yard sale . I have a problem , the pc didn't have any OS installed on the hard drive. I managed to fdisk, format, then at first i installed WinME.It looked as if everything was going well.IT didn't !I am now missing the CDrom Driver for the machine , and i think this is the reason for me not being able to install the OS from the Cdrom.
Does anyone, have a driver for this device?Or a recovery disc for this machine? The machine is an 6oomhz pentiumIII with 128mg ram, has a dvd drive, the cdrom is a CD writer plus 8100 series. And anyone that could help with any of these matters , i would truly appreciate it , cheers, joe

hp pavilion driver problem
I think the only thing i need to get the os installed on this machine is a driver for the cd rom (HP cdrom plus 8100 series).
The machine had no OS on the hard drive, i'd fdisk, then formatted the hardrive, then went to install the OS(ME) , and it stated on the screen it didnt have a driver for the Cdrom . I was using a windows98 startup disk with all this .Any HElp?? thanks again, joe

My daughter has an HP8760, and all I used to install W2K Pro, was a W98 startup disk.
BTW, not sure, but that model may not support WME. My daughter's wouldn't support W2K, per HP, but with a little searching, I was able to get it to run w/o problem.

NO power get it? With the win98 start up disk in it , it will ask you if you want to start the node with cd rom support. you must have both the floppy and the Winme in their slots. Now after it boots from the floppy after loading the cd drivers you hit the ctrl alt del to boot to the CDrom.
This is the trick and it works everytime, unless your cdrom drive is fried.

Use a win98 startup disk and start the computer with cdrom support.
Put the cd (WINME) in the cd drive and then turn off the machine. insert a win98 startup floppy in drive a: and cold boot.

A little advise.......WINME is craaaaap!!!I would use Win98 or win2000 for this machine,XP would not run very well , too many bells and whistles.
Cheers and good luck

I assume you mean you want the driver so you can use the cd burner, the regular cd drivers are built into windows and I see no reason why ME wouldnt work on there.
It doesnt have to be an HP cd burner driver, any old cd burning software will get it. Get an older version of Roxio or Adaptec, ive picked them up as chaep as $5. A couple years older one will be fine as im sure thats not the fastest burner on the planet anyway.
If you get ME on there, right click My computer, go to advanced and turn off system restore. next go Start Run (type) Msconfig and uncheck system restore and pchealth under the startup tab. Then go to the system.ini portion and put a new line under the 386Enh sections as follows "ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1".
If all that is done upon a clean install and as soon afterward as possible it helps ME out considerably.
