Systems Strange problems w/ P4P800. Please help.

Hey everyone,

Ok, so here's the problem(s). I put together my new machine, and turned it on. I simply used my old HD for the time being just to get it up and running. This drive had Windows XP Pro on it. Well, as windows tried to boot it gave me this blue screen that said something about Windows had to shut down. It went on to say that there might be a problem with the hard drive or video card, and that I should remove any new drives, etc. At the bottom is said "STOP" and had a bunch of memory addresses.

Does anyone have any idea as to why this would happen? At first I thought it might be my video card, but it works fine in other machines. So does the hard drive. My only guess is that it's either the memory or the MoBo itself. When I try to install XP over again, half way through I get a similar blue screen, but it says "MEMORY MANAGEMENT" at the top and has messages similar to the other one, but about memory. I've never seen or heard of these messages, so I'm assuming it's something the motherboard produces.

I installed Win 2K without too much trouble, but now whenever I close a program or open a folder (random ones) it gives me an error and says the program (or explorer) has to shut down. It does this with any hard drive I use, not just my main one.

Here's what I'm running:

P4 2.8Ghz w/ 800MHz FSB
Asus P4P800 Deluxe
2x 512MB Corsair XMS3200 DDR
GeForce 4 Ti 4600
CoolMax 450W Powersupply
Thermaltake V2000A case (not important, but has 7 fans...maybe a power issue?)

In Win2K, just about everything I download becomes corrupt. This sounds like a hard drive issue, but it happens on every HD I use, even ones from other computers. When I put them back into the other computers, they work fine.

I'm hoping the memory or the MB is just bad so I can return it and get new ones. If anyone has any ideas or input, it would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

-Chris

Gaming

I had similar problems last weekend with a new Mbd, myself. Two good hard drives would not work in a new setup. Even the CD and floppy started acting strangely. Got in another Mbd and cpu I had ordered, assembled the PC with the same video card, ram and nic , formatted the hhd, installed windows and my other apps and it's been up and running since. Reckon ,some Mbd's are picky. Had another one last year, built it and was running fine, changed monitors and it wouldn't even boot up. Had to get a different video card. You never know. I'd get a different Mbd. Good luck

Pickel,

Thanks for the info. When you said you got in another motherboard, did you mean you got another of the same one or a different brand/model all together? Thanks
