DAMN!!! monitor

first off i didn't know what category to put this under, Mods feel free to move it as you see fit.

Now, I just received my NEC 19" LCD monitor from Techforless.com. It was refurbished and had a great price of $540. I thought sweet deal, and purchased it as soon as possible. I mean NEC is one of the best monitor makers and refurbished means it goes back to one of their certified factories for refurbishment (I don't care if it's not a real word ). I get it in under a week, and set it up. After I get it set up with the analog cable instead of the DVI (cuz i don't have the cable) it works fine i do the necessary tweaking and it's great I get it up to 1280x1024 and everything. And it's working for the five hours that i'm awake. I go to bed and shut the monitor off like i always do and leave the comp running. this morning i push the power button and nothing. NO PICTURE. I figure, okay, maybe its just the cable, and i switch it with one of my other cables... no dice. GRRRRRR, I have to go to work, and my monitor isn't working. I just got back from work, and try again.

whats this ::squints eyes::... I see a very faint picture of the penguin thats on my wallpaper. thats something.

I finally grab my old 15" viewsonic LCD to see if maybe it's a setting, but i plug everything in and turn the monitor on. damn blue box comes on the screen and says "out of range." my viewsonic can't handle the high 1280x1024 resolution!!!!

Plug in the NEC as it's the only one that gets the resolution and has a slight picture, so i can try and lower the res.. Longer story short, i get a flashlight to shine indirectly at the screen and see enought to lower the resolution for the other monitor.

Is it a manufacturer thing? was it not refurbished right?
plus I have to wait till tuesday to call TechforLess, cuz tomorrow is sunday, and I have work all day monday.

SO PISSED OFF!!!

Try pulling the power and video cable off. Maybe it'll reset itself.

It sounds like the backlight stopped functioning, that's why you could use the flashlight to lower the res for the smaller monitor.

You most likely will have to either RMA it or send it to NEC to have the backlight repaired.
