Hrd Drive Speed Question

It used to be that if you had two different hard drives on the same IDE port and one of those drives was slower than the other... Example an ATA 33 and an ATA 66... The controller would revert to the ATA 33 speed. Or something like that...

Question... Will that happen on todays Motherboards or Control Cards? If I install an old ATA 33 drive in with a new ATA 100 drive will I loose performance?

What effect does an older CD Drive do to this scenario as well??? How should I hook things up? Put the old HD and CD on one IDE channel and a new HD and Burner on the other?

Thank you mike... I am going to go with the premise that the slowest HD will not determine the max speed on a specific IDE channel.

This is good news because a lot of people will loose performance of a ATA100 drive if they also keep the old ATA33 drive

Good bye
