LG 4020B DVD burner?

Hey guys, as anyone played with the LG 4020B DVD burner? From what I've read it's kinda on the slow side, but it supports all formats and it's on sale for $150 Canadian locally ($230 before $80 mail-in rebate). I'd love to run out and pick one up but I'm wary since I just blew around $90 on a good 48x CD burner last boxing day. I'd ahte to replace it already (I know, I'd keep both. lol) Any advise?

Well, the dvd burner will probably onnly burn the cds at 12x or 16x max, so yeah, I'd keep both.

Yeah I'm pretty much planning to keep the CD-RW regardless. Coincidentally enough, it's an LG unit too.

I'm surprised there aren't more opinions on this drive. It seems to be the cheapest DVD burner out there by quite a bit.

I'd love one so I can do larger backups without splitting things up, but do I really need a third burner? (I also have my ol' 4x2x8 collecting dust)

I haven't actually bought the DVD burner yet, I'm just considering it. My LG CD-RW came with a stripped down version of EZ CD if memory serves.

i saw that same sale in bestbuy...
$149 sounds great... but if you go to some small stores.. they sell pioneer a05 for $250... and that's a 4X dvd burner...

here is review at cdrlabs.com
http://www.cdrlabs.com/reviews/index.php?reviewid=178

they gave the lg burner 8/10...

still tempting though.. $150..

Hey Eli I bought the LG GMA-4020B 2 days ago, and I freakin' love it. Installed it in my Mac G4 400 in about 5 minutes, opened toast and it immediatly saw the burner, backed up 4 dvds in a row without a hitch or hickup. As for slow, it took 38 min a disc, big deal. I could live with that.
12x cd/cdrwriter, burns dvd-rw/dvd-r/dvdram. I also picked up 5 dvd-r's Memorex for $9.99 at Best Buy, although I bought the burner at Future Shop.
For a drive that probably cost $799 less than 3 years ago, it's best $150 I've ever spent! Highly recommended.
I also love this site for all you ever wanted to know about DVD in general.

Cheers,

Just a correction to my last post. I stated it took 38 min to burn a DVD-R disc, but actually really takes 26 min at max 2x, although a DVD-RW will be double this at max 1x.

Cheers.
