It really is personal preference. Some people deal better with mice, others with trackballs. I would pick up a cheap one and see what you think of it. I used one for years but went back to a mouse.

IMO, trackballs suck. You cant get anywhere near the handling and precision that you get from a logitech dualopti.

tony's right, they suck. I played CS on a trackball once. After spinning in circles accidentaly then getting shot in the head a few times, I decided that track balls suck .

It takes some time to get used to a trackball, especially if you are only accustomed to using a mouse. As previously stated, the trackball does not even come close to the ease of use and accuracy that a good optical mouse will give you while playing these 'gun games' you are referring to. For perspective, however, it would be nice to hear from someone who successfully uses a trackball for this type of gaming, that is, if such a person even exists.

Actually I find that trackballs are much more accurate and require less movement to aim so you can aim faster than someone using a mouse. It really depends on you and if you have the patience to relearn how to play your games using a trackball. Some of the best gamers I know use trackballs, but if you're used to a mouse you will be much much better with a mouse than a trackball until you learn how to use it. I use both, but i find that I can game longer using a regular mouse than with a trackball since my wrist is stronger than my thumb. Logitech makes some really nice trackball mice that are great for gaming but again, its up to you and how you like to play.

Thanks for that input, Mead. I actually know someone who swears by the trackball but this person doesn't play FPS type games. I tried, on a limited basis, to get used to the trackball for gaming but never quite got the hang of it. The one game I did have success using the trackball with was Golden Tee Golf for the PC. Using a trackball mouse I got scores ranging from -18 to -21 on all three courses, something I couldn't do with an optical mouse. To me, that does say something about the accuracy of the trackball, and if I ever get the urge I wouldn't hesistate to give it another try.

Trackball, mouse whatever precision is something you learn. I used both equally well. I prefer the trackball for so my mouse doesn't fall off my desk from sliding it all over the place killin villains. I've gotten better at that. Also when you have other users who never clean the mouse you share, you never have to slam the mouse against the table to try to get it to move the cursor on the screen.

Give me a trackball great, mouse-satisfied, TOUCHPAD-I QUIT HIRE SOMEONE ELSE.

Trackball

Just putting in my $0.02. I, for one, really like my trackball!! I used
a Microsoft Trackball Explorer for about three years. I recently re-
placed it with a Logitech cordless Trackman. I've never been able
to use a regular mouse for long sessions. The Trackman requires
only a light touch and is faster than the Explorer. On the rare
trips into gameland I prefer a joystick.
