moving My Documents

I have had a couple of HDD crashes lately and have lost allot of Data; most of it was replaceable, so, it was not that bad. Right now, I have a two 40G HDD's set up as RAID 0 striped. I have a system partion for Win2K and drivers, ect, that is 6GB (NTSF). The rest of the array is set up as another primary partition(NTSF) that is broke up into four logical partitions for various file types(one is a small Fat32 partition for file sharing on a network).

My question is this: if W2K crashes, can I reinstall W2K without losing the data on the other partitions? Also, I want to move my "My Documents Folder" so that I can save all of my data files on another partition as well so as not to lose them in the case of a OS crash. Where would be the best place to put it or does it matter just as long as it is not on C partition? I have thought of putting it on the FAT 32 partition, but, since FAT32 does not know what "private" means, I would leave all my personal data available to anyone on the network. Right?

As I said, my point here is to minimize the loss should a disaster happen again. I know nothing is full proof, apart from RAID 5 or maybe 1, but, I do not want to go that far.

One more thing, is it possible to move the shared folder, cookies, and favorites? I have yet to find a way to do that.

ChrisK

Right click My Documents select properties and then move.

Also tweakui will allow you to do the same thing in the "My Computer" tab along with other folders.

HTH,

Bill

'course that is smart to move to a separate drive but if you is paranoid like me, burn your stuff on a DVD/CDR.

Twice.

Just in case.

I just installed tweakUI. I knew it existed but never took the time to see what it would do. Thanks for the suggestion!

As for backing up on cd's, I try to do that. But, it seems that I usually get him when I haven't had time (or taken time more like it) to back it up. But, I guesss I need to be a bit more proactive in warding off a catastrophe.
