Domain to Workgroup - Cannot Log In

Hi, this is a bit frustrating but I have 2 pcs running XP and a PDC running win 2003. Since it's just in my house, I decided I would cut out using a server and convert it to a workgroup. On both XP machines, I went in and changed them to workgroup. They, of course, required a reboot. I cannot get in to my XP machines anymore. I don't have the domain in the dialog anymore, but tried everything from the same user name to using the username@domain and domain\username options. I can't believe because I changed from a domain to a workgroup that I can no longer access my pcs without better warning. Anybody have a clue? It would be greatly appreciated.

You wont be able to log in with a domain account anymore. You will have to use a local account.

It keeps things like 'domain' user account profiles and 'local' user account profiles separate, even if it looks like they have the same name (but I don't think they actually do; I think their real IDs have the domain or local machine name tagged onto the end of them).

Anyway... all accounts are assigned a GUID, and even though a 'kaziah' logged into 'suchandsuch' domain, may be the same name as 'kaziah' logged into the local machine... they're still two entirely separate user profiles... hmmm... or at least that's what I remember =)

Correct. Even if the user/pass is the same they will have unique SIDs.

I remember the first time I ran into this problem. Thankfully it was at home on my own private network. I didn't know enough about W2k's directory structure at the time though to find my .pst file for Outlook. I was really hurting for my Contacts..

As the others have said, you will not be able to use your domain login any more.

Hopefully you remember the local administrator password, or the password for any local accounts you created.. If not, you will most likely have to reinstall Windows.

You won't need to install Windows. Just use a cracking program for NT. I've used it many times and it works well.
