I have a website at tripod.com and I got some pop3 email accounts that came with it. It says to just type in the pop3 server and smtp server when outlook asks for it and says to get the smtp server name from you ISP which is MSN. Now I got the MSN smtp server but it doesnt work. Is this right? Was I supposed to get the smtp server from MSN? Please any help is welcome but would really like help from someone who has done this before.
You are supposed the use the smtp server that you have for MSN...most hosting companie's don't offer SMTP (outgoing mail) and they tell you to use your ISP's. Maybe your SMTP for MSN requires authentication? Have you looked into that?
Now when I go to send/recieve email the error message is 450 5.7.3 Requested action aborted. So it connects then the server aborts me.
Now I enabled the server authentication but then this sign on thing pops up and says to type msn id and password. I do that but the same thing keeps on popping up. I am sure that I typed the password correctly. I have tried with and without the @msn.com.
Please anyone help. I have called MSN 3 times, been to 7 chat rooms before techimo forum. So please anyone with any knowledge about pop3 email accounts, give your suggestions.
The problem is that most likely MSN isnt liking your from: address. To prevent relaying/spamming, most require it to be to or from a local/valid address. I cant say that I blame them for not letting people use their resources for another domains mail...
yes Siliconjunkie that is correct. I have read about this but for some reason the MSN server isnt letting me go on with my MSN id and password. Do you think I need a special MSN id and password to go on their SMTP server?
