divx on win2k

i was trying to get my uncle's computer able to play divx, but it didnt seem to work. i installed the latest version from www.divx.com, and used a divx file that works on other computers fine, and there is no audio and so video, but the player (tried both divx player and media player) sees the actual length and moves down the scale like it really is playing.

there were some 30 windows updates he could get, maybe that could be something? it is a farely decent computer, atleast a 600mhz, probably better. we were logged in as an administrator. i cant think of anything else. anybody have any problems on win2k?

get this program and see if it even uses teh divx codecs. there are many other codecs out there as xvid and so forth.

it will tell you what it uses and if you have it installed

right, i know that it is divx. even so, i also installed xvid to try an xvid encoded file. i know the files work, they are on cd, and they work on other computers fine.

i am sure the files are good, something is with the computer.

EDIT: keep in mind here, the file seems like it plays, no audio and no video. that should be enough to tell you that i have the codec installed gz.
