Nvidia Drivers for A7n8x Crash

Hi,
I've clean installed windows 3 times and have spent countless hours trying to solve my random rebooting problems. I think I've narrowed it down this time. It seems that the Nvidia Drivers that come with the Asus board have caused some sort of error.

My config is:
Windows Xp
Asus a7n8x deluxe
Ati AIW 8500dv
WD 120GB
LG 52x CDRW
512 of Crucial

The error is something like this:
0x000000c5: (000000x0,000000x2,000000x1, 0x80533fd4)

I believe it is 1.16 version from Asus. I bought the board in May and it was the 2.0 version of the actual board.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Sounds more to me like a ram problem. How long have you run the computer w/out the Nvidia drivers? Try it for a while, like with a game or something (I know, you'll have no sound or internet) and see if it's stable.

I'm not sure if this will help at all, but I have an earlier verson of the deluxe model and I had that problem, but flashing the bios to a newer version fixed it..........might help yours also as I bought mine in March or April..............

Hmm...I ran memtest for about 15 hours with no problems...so I don't think its the problem.

Can I flash the bios without a floppy drive? I don't have one yet.

Okay, you're a step ahead. I don't believe you can. I'm in the same boat, unable to flash since I don't have a floppy.

Asus' website provides a utitlity to flash the BIOS from within windows, it's called AwdFlash (seems a bit slow at the moment).

The issue is probably due to the nForce2 IDE drivers. they are troublesome, doubley so when you have an ATI graphics card.

Go Here, of interest is the "Sticky: A7N8X Tutorials". There are other posts which may also be of interest to you or any other with an nforce2 board.

Thanks Strawbs. I wonder how I can resolve this? I had a feeling ATI might be to blame also. Their drivers are buggy as hell. Any suggestions on an ATI driver?

Just for a change it's not ATI's fault this time! nVidia have been struggling to release a decent unified driver for this board ever since it's release. There is a new driver release that is supposed to show it's face any time now, but with the release of new drivers, nVidia usually follows up with a withdrawel of the same drivers within a couple of weeks, then they put the old ones back up at their site!

I am currently running Omega driver for my 9700Pro, I have only had it installed a couple of days, so I can't guarentee stability yet! Apparently it works with all radeon cards and includes an o\c utility. Just click the "ATI Radeon" link at the side of the page.

note: you must un-install ATI control panel (Add\Remove programs) before you install this (Catalyst 3.6) driver.

Work

Tip: Next time you do a clean install, leave out the nVidia IDE drivers. It worked for me!

Strawbs,
I'm actually doing a clean install right when I get back from work!
I have yet to add any drivers. I will try out the Omega ones for ATI. Should I D/L anything from ATI once I have the Omega's installed?

Any particular order you think I should add my drivers? Does it make a difference?
