Fellow Members:

This is likely a "duh" question, but here it tis: How does one install a program shortcut into the taskbar on the Desktop?

Thx.

you mean a quick launch shortcut?

to get the quicklaunch bar:
right click on the start bar, click toolbars, then quick launch

next
just go to where the program is located. while holding the right mouse button on the .exe drag it to the quicklaunch bar. a menu should pop up click either copy here or create shortcut here

GroundZero3:

You've helped me out several times before, but ... not this time .... Unless I am misunderstanding your directions ...

actually you must right click on the bottom task bar not the "start" button, and select "Toolbars" and then check "Quicklaunch" in the list.

IF you are indeed talking about the quick launch the folder keeps the shortcuts in this folder

C:\Documents and Settings\<profile name>\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

If you want you just drag a shortcut into the task bar...

If you look at the far right of this picture you'll see my quick launch bar. I keep mine to the right

But if you don't have quick launch turned on, then follow JP's instructions...

IF we're all wrong.. maybe a pic?

JPMiller:

No .. I understand that. I followed GroundZero's directions ... but on my computer when I click on "Quicklaunch" (which is checked) the items that were on the Taskbar disappear. I then re-click on Quicklaunch and the original items reappear.

Hmmm ...

"YEAH!"

Thanks, everyone. I was attempting to slide the Shortcut Icon to the right of the existing Taskbar Icons, and it would not "stick." I had Quick Launch activated (checked) ... the Icon only embedded when I slid it between the other Icons! Go figure.

maybe were misunderstanding you...
You have quicklaunch enabled and the little slider that allows you to control how much of the bar is reserved for quicklaunch icons is slid all the way over a little ways past the last icon ...right?
to add a new quicklaunch icon to the bar you must use windows explorer to find the programs exe. and like GroundZero3 said rightclick drag it to the bar, release it and choose "create shortcut here".

cool, actually what I do is drag the upper edge of the taskbar upwards so that I have 2 seperate bars, one for quicklaunch icons and one for the open windows bar.
