I'm having a problem with my D-Link DI-614+ router and DWL-520+ wireless PCI card dropping connection. I can ping from the host to the client fine, but I timeout on half of the pings from the client to the host. And it goes in cycles. Good for a few pings, then bad for a few pings. I've tried various firmware and driver combos and nothing seams to help. They are only about 30ft apart. Signal strenth is pretty steady at 80% even when the pings timeout. Anyone have any suggestions?
Now when I was looking at the firmware, there was a Version A and a Version B model for the router. Are you sure you choose the right version and firmware?
Wow. That dude had the same problem. Guess I'm not alone.
I made sure I used the right firmware (B) for my router. I used both versions on D-Link's site. And I used all of the driver versions for the wireless NIC.
Other info... Windows 2000 SP4 on both boxes. Host is an Athlon XP 2000+ on an Asus A7A266 mobo, 128MB PC2100 and is wired to the router through a D-Link NIC (530TX2 I think). Client is a AMD K62-500 on a Gigabyte GA-5A7 mobo, 128MB PC100. DHCP is disabled on the router so I can share a dial-up connection. I've tried disabling WEP. I've tried turning off any other wireless devices in the house.
The client is setting next to a microwave which is rarely used. If it's not running can it still interfere with a wireless connection?
Turns out it was the ethernet card or cable. Had nothing to do with the wireless router or nic at all. Took me about 18 hours of screwing around with it to figure it out.
