Monitor/Computer Problem with GeForce 4 Ti 4200 AGP 8X

Only recently, I've begun having severe problems with said graphics card. Anytime I initiate a 3d program - be it a simple screen saver or a game - my monitor signal is immediately lost in a few seconds.

Now, it's not only the monitor though. If it were just the monitor, I would be able to continue hearing the music I have playing in the background. But alas, that's not the case, and it appears the computer itself shuts down as well. I have to manually reset it in order to get it up again.

I have absolutely no idea why this is starting now. I've fiddled with the latest drivers, messed with the refresh rate, but all to no avail. If anyone could offer assistance, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

What brand of GeForce4 do you have?
Make sure your card is properly seated in the AGP slot.

I have a similar problem with my card (at least I think it is similar). My video card, a GeForce 4 Ti 4200 AGP 8X, from Vertigo, has begun overheating. I just bought a DVD burner, and it started oberheating. It was overheating when I first built my computer, but I opened up some pci slots, and it stopped since more air was getting out I guess. Anyway, I've been trying to get this to stop overheating, and I couldn't figure it out. I went to the bios, and tried some things which didn't work, but my computer still ran. Anyway, I went back into the bios and I did something to the power sent to the card - it was disabled and I changed it to 1.8v I think. Now, when I turn my computer on, it lights up, but the monitor, which is still connected, won't show anything. I'm not hearing any sound either. I can't get back into my bios and fix things either (at least I don't know how). Anyway, if you guys know how I can fix this, I'd appreciate it.

What motherboard is this in? The GeForce 4 series draws a lot of power; sometimes more than the AGP slot can provide on certain motherboards.

Near the battery on the motherboard there is a jumper labeled JP 5. Set the jumper to 2-3 for a few seconds. Set it back to 1-2. Make sure the PC is unplugged and you are grounded before you do this.

Your Bios will be reset after that.

If you have heat issues, you will need to address it with better cooling rather than in BIOS. Add fans.

Thanks for letting me know how to reset the bios. It's up and running now. I had a slot above the agp card I opened up, and it's running fine now. Thanks for the help everyone.
