Problem with Floopy Drive

HI, Im trying to make an emergency repair disk but Im having trouble making it. I get an error message saying "the disk is write-protected". I trying using the same disk on my other comp and it worked fine, the problem is not the disk.

Specs:
win 2000k
1gb RAM
120hd
2.8 mhz
875 mobbo

Any suggestion?

ps: The floopy reads fine.

Sounds like a dirty drive.

Make sure the cables are connected correctly.... ie. are they pushed all the way in. Both power and ribbon.

If still no go, swap the drives and try again. Try the "bad" drive in your other computer and try the "good" drive in the computer your having trouble with.

Time to use a little logic.

To clean remove the drive: There will be a couple small screws to remove the caseing and possibly some moulded plastic tabs to press to remove the front plate. You can use some compressed air to blow out any dust and accumulations and a Q-tip with alcohol to clean the heads. Normally the gears etc. do not need lubricating but you can use a light lithium type grease. Apply it very very sparingly, too much is bad.
Reassemble and hope for the best.
