I sent a question to blizzard tech, but I got kind of a generic pre-hashed response. It gave me .
this link. Maybe someone else will read this and get a few ideas.
I read this, and my interpretation behind this is that for the purposes of my scenario (and anyone else using a hardware router) the "proxy server" it constantly refers to can be equated w/ my home router, since my router uses dhcp to provide all my comps w/ LAN IPs.

Blizzard doesn't specifically support proxy servers. If you really want to host a game on your server computer, then you can disable the proxy temporarily. That'll let you host a game that can be joined by people from across the internet (and Diablo should display your external IP address), but such a game probably can't be joined by others on your LAN (since the LAN computers, now cut off from their proxy, can only see internal IP addresses).

I think this is what I'm trying to explain. I can host a game on my "server computer" (my box) and others on the internet can join the game, but other boxes on my LAN wont be able to join the game.
If anyone can think of a workaround for this please share. My router (and I image most people's) uses dhcp to give LAN IP's. Would disabling dhcp and giving each box a static LAN IP help in anyway?
I think this topic may have evolved into the complexity necessary to post to the networking forum.
