Kids Serious Mobile Laptop use

Hey all,

I was wondering how much of a risk is it and is it worth that risk to be active with a laptop on? I'm thinking of using it as an MP3 player as I'm walking to class or using it as a mp3 player in the car. Each of these are a lot of vibration for a laptop. I know i could just get an mp3 player and I do have one but it's really old and I usually carry my laptop around anyways. Also I don't remember where I heard it but is it not good to have the Laptop on and have the screen down? Or does that affect the monitor in anyway? All of these questions are based on if the laptop is actually on not in sleep or standby or hibernate. Thanks for your time.

Nick

I've used my laptop in a car, many times. At home I have my laptop on top of a huge speaker (when I play movies through it), I'm sure the speaker vibrates.

Never has a laptop broken down on me.

About the screen thing I don't know... Mine goes to standby when lid is closed.

Hey, Thanks for your help Muno. What kind of laptop do you have just out of curiousity? Mine is a HP Pavillion ZE5170. So a laptop can take a lot more jaring or vibration than I thought?

Previously I've had toshiba satellite pro 4600, satellite pro 6100 and tecra 9000.

Well, I don't think you should toss it around or anything but normal walking with the laptop in hand and stuff hasn't harmed the least my laptop.

You could happily use the laptop in the car, but I would point out that when you close the screen 'lid', the laptop goes into shut down mode...

You can very well select what happens when you close the lid, shutdown, standby, nothing.

It's in the powersaver options.
