Media GEFORCE FX 5900 minor graphic problems

I recently purchased a Geforce FX card but i have experienced some minor problems with some games.

This are my specs:

P4 2.4 CPU
1Ghz DDR ram
Leadtek Winfast 350TDH - GEFORCE FX 5900 128 MB MYVIVO
Windows XP + SP1
Direct X9

Minor Issues:

Splinter cell: Cant see the light shining in most places in the game, sometimes i have to rotate the camera to certain position in order to see some of the light shining. And the water in the oilrig mission looks weird, it looks like puddles on a flat surface. It looked better with my old RADEON 9000 64 MB card, with this card the water looked real shining light from the sun with no gaps in the water.

Raven Shield: I have set my resolution in the game to 1024 x 768 but loads up in 800 x 600. In order to get the resolution of 1024x768 i have to go back to the menu check the resolution then go back to the game.
Plus after only a couple of days playing i couldn't even play the game. When loading mission it went back to the desktop with a minimized window, every time i clicked on it the desktop flashed and then an error message came up. I had to delete and reinstall the game.

The only thing that looks excellent is the shadows.
Its a new graphics card and yet it can't produce some of the graphics that my old RADEON 9000 64 MB could produce such as such as realistic textures of water and what my Geforce 2 GTS could produce such as great shining light graphics.
What can i do to get the most out of the card? Please help?

Send a message via ICQ to JayMan
What drivers are you using?

What are you antialiasing & anisotropic filtering setting?

well...ATI has been rated higher for image quality, but the radeon 9000 producing better textures than the 5900, thats bizarre, did you do a full uninstall of the radeon drivers before you put your new card in?

Thats the weird thing, i reformatted the harddisk and installed WIN XP so there should be no problems. I basically installed a fresh copy of the card and its drivers.

Does anyone out there have an idea if the GEFORCE FX 5900 128 MB will be enough to play HalfLife2?

Try adding .1 v to the AGP and/or lowering the AGP mode from 8x (if you do have 8x) to 4x.

How's the cooling in your case? Maybe it's the lackluster cooling that is causing the graphic corruption.

Lastly, are you overclocking anything in your computer?

Cooling is fine, no overclocking... why cange from 8x to 4x? Isn't 8x faster and produces better graphics than 4x?

Theoretically 8x AGP is supposed to be faster than 4x because of the bandwith being more. So far, there is nothing that really stresses the AGP to actually worry about it. Believe it or not, many people have solved their problems by changing the AGP mode.
Take a look see here

Auswak changed the mode and all is well.

Edit: fixed typo

Yes lowering to 4XAGP fixed my problem, Thanks to poopeyhed.

In my case it seems to be either an MSI Motherboard problem or possibly an nForce2 problem, which you dont have either.

I recommend you download from www.guru3d.com the Detonator Drivers 44.71
They had some game fixes and way outperform the 44.03 drivers.

Also make sure you have the latest Intel AGPinf drivers from the Intel site.

And last but not least, as is in many cases, your Power Supply might not be enough also.
