Kids CPU , Mbd temps ????

Just put together a work computer and noticed that the Cpu temp was higher than the old CPU. What should be right ??

ECS K7S5A Pro
1.3 Mhz Duron
384 Mb PC 133
PNY MX 420
Maxtor 40 ig Hd
Liteon DVD Rom
floppy
on board sound and nic

My 1 Gig duron ran about 35 C, while the Mbd was at 31 C.

The 1.3 is running at 43 C, the Mbd at 32 C

The I gig had a little heatsink and fan, but I went and got a BIG heatsink and fan for the 1.3. Computer seems to run well, was just curious on the difference between the two processors. Thanks for any replies

assuming that you only switched out the cpu and used all of the same hardware it could be caused by a couple of things...

1. the position of the thermostat wire could not have been seated properly before on the old cpu
2. amount and/or type of thermal grease used
3. poor air circulation

it also could just be a difference in the manufacture of the chips. although all of the chips of a certain "spec" are all manufactured the same they do not all perform necessarily the same. they are sold at a particular speed because that is the speed that it was tested and was stable at. it could just be a quirk or something

those are my guesses... it could something completely different though

oh yeah.. it could also depend on the material that the heatsinks were made out of... copper spreads heat better than aluminum etc... so if the smaller one was made out material with better heat conductivity it would explain why it ran cooler as well

Try the 1gig's heatsink/fan on your 1.3 and see what the reading shows.
