asus a7n8x dlx boot up problem

aight i keep having the same problem with this motherboard "a7n8x dlx" i turn on my system, go through al the beggining stuff where you can go into bios, then......

pci device listing
nvidia boot agent
media test failure check cable
pc boot agent
MBA
pre boot execution enviroment
media test failure check cable
disk boot failure insert system disk and press enter


what is the matter???the part that confuses me is the media test failure. What causes that? here is my setup

asus a7n8x dlx
amd athlon xp 2600+
512mb corsair pc 3200 ddr memory
western digital 120 gig hard drive
gf ti 4600 vid card
lite on 52x32x52x cdrw
lite on 16x dvd drive
mitsumi floppy drive

yeah and this is my first time at this so please explain in stupid persom computer talk.

oh yeah all the stuff is new.. and no OS is on the hard drive..

Did you just build it? Did you install an OS?

It's because you don't have an OS installed...it has nowhere to go from there.

Put your xp disc in the drive and then go into the bios at startup and set the first bootup device to the cdrom and second to hdd, should all be downhill from there.

tried going into bios and changing the boot sequence,, it still said disk boot failure

that media test faiure thing still came up

Check the cables and power leads for the CDROM and DVD drives, and the HDD. Make sure you installed them all properly, and not upside down. (Although most new board I've seen, along with most newer drives have keyed IDE cable connections, so you can't do this. When you start your system, do the lights come on on the units? Also, what's you power supply rated at?

When you insert your operating system disc in the drive, it's giving this error? What OS are you trying to install?

yeah, well i also have 5 case fans and a cold cathode light, its all running off of an antec true power 430 w power supply.
i will check all the wires but i dont think that is the problem. the motherboard detects all the drives in BIOS.
i am trying to install windows XP PRO.
i dont put the disk in untill the message comes up that says "insert system disk and press enter"
then when i press enter is just says the same thing
i think the reason it wont work is because of that whole media test failure.

just to inform you i have tried starting up the comp with the disk in on startup also..

made the floppy boot disks and everything is fine
