Computer not booting up

I have a machine that will not boot up - hard drive is making a noise but it seems as if it might be in hibernation(?) - any ideas how I can get it started without losing my files on the hard drive? Any help would be very much appreciated.

Its always a good idea when posting and asking for help that you most all the info on your computer, motherboard , spu ram hdd, video card ect. Its hard to help when we don't know nothing about the system. you'll also need to post any info such as bios beeps or anyhting related to your problem
