I currently have 3 window 2000 pro machines hooked up to a linksys Router/Hub which also shares the internet connection. I also have a XP home laptop that have tried to connect also to the router/Hub. When it is connected I have internet connection on the xp Home laptop but i cant see an of the 2000 machines. From the 2000 machines i can see the laptop but I do not have access to it. Does anyone have any suggestions to help me have access between the xp home laptop and the 2000 workgrouped machines.
You may need to turn off simple file sharing on the notebook. Open windows explorer and select Tools>FolderOptions>View. Simple file sharing is the last check box listed. Disable it.
It isn't really necessary to 'see' the computers to be able to use them. I don't think I've seen my neighborhood computers ever, except when logged in a domain.
All you got to be sure of is that the subnets match. If you can ping, you can map, and if you can map, you 'see'.

If you know the share you want, then you should be able to access it via RUN, ie \\computername\sharename, and it'll open in an explorer window. Have you shared anything? Won't work without sharing (a bit like P2P, eh? ).
