from what i hear, the ati drivers are pretty bad....I know a few people who got rid of their ati's and opted for a FX 5800/5900 because the drivers were so bad on ati.

i have atuaclly heard the exact opposite about the ati drivers. i heard ATI has made great strides in there drivers department. (yes they were terrible, i used to have to use them) if you search around other ati card threads many people are have success with them.

don't think you can go wrong with either to be honost . they benchmark about dead even in most tests . the ati drivers started out bad but are much better now . but the fx5900 drivers are new so will get better . so the preformance of the fx might get better as newer drivers are released . were as they have gotten about all they can out of the 9800 drivers now .

and as far as the blocked pci slot , whats that matter , nobody uses the first pci slot anyway . it shares an irq with the agp slot so nobody uses it anyway . lets face it with onboard nic and sound now adays running out of pci slots is no big problem anymore .

so like i said in the begining
don't think you can go wrong with either .

I'd go with the 9800...

Nvidia have been going backwards with their drivers lately... They've been putting in "optimizations" which increase performance (only in certain apps), but those optimizations also make it loose quailty.

AF quality & performance are pretty similar on the cards, but the 9800 has the better quality AA.
